When was the last time that you had one of those days that was going all wrong? Maybe you are having one right now. Or maybe, you’ve gotten into a rut with your mood and mindset, and you’re having trouble breaking free?
We all know that your outlook on life, or your mood, affects more than just yourself. It affects everyone that you come in contact with.
I’m definitely speaking to myself when I say, “There’s really no place for a rotten, negative attitude in life”. Especially when you have children who are watching your every mood and listening to your every word.
Let’s get into five of the quickest ways that I have found to change your mood and your outlook, and end your day strong and happy.
Change Your Mood with Music
This first way to change your mood is probably the most obvious. Music!
If you are feeling tired and unmotivated, put on something upbeat and energizing. Feeling sad and defeated? Put on something happy and inspiring.
If you want to use music most effectively, get yourself moving too. You can go all out and dance, or just take a quick walk around your house.
If you have a bunch of little people and can’t just walk outside for a few minutes without having to put four pairs of shoes on people, then walk inside your house.
Just figure out a path through your house, and walk for five minutes or so. My path goes from my kitchen into my dining room, then I cut through the hallway, then through the living room, back to the hallway, and start back at the kitchen again.
It’s a figure eight pattern, and it works great. You can put on your music, get yourself moving, and keep an eye on your little people all at the same time.
Change Your Mood By Changing What You Look At…
Change what you are looking at. If you need some inspiration or a boost in any area of your life, I guarantee you, there is a meme for it!
Hop on over to Pinterest (follow me while you’re there!) and do a search for “meme” along with whatever word you want. You could search for inspiring motherhood memes, funny motherhood memes, fitness memes, marriage memes, faith memes, whatever you need, there is a meme for that.
If you are the type of woman who is inspired by nature, step outside and spend a little bit of time viewing the scenes that speak to you.
It could be sunrise or sunset, stars at night, staring into the trees, watching your bird feeder, or cloud watching.
If you can’t get outside, or if you live in an area where there isn’t a lot to see, just pull up google and take a look at different photos. It’s a substitute, sure. But it’s better than nothing!
Change Your Mood With Your Taste Buds
Using your taste buds to change your mood is easy, but don’t let it get you into trouble. I know that I am all too familiar with using chocolate medicinally!
Taste is a powerful tool, just make sure to use it responsibly. Otherwise, you are going to be in a bad mood for a completely different reason…your pants will be too tight.
Pair up taste with music and some exercise for a perfect compromise and complement.
If you’re sad, the obvious choice is chocolate. If you are feeling sluggish, then choose something cool and light, like a smoothie.
A warm, soothing, creamy drink hits the spot beautifully in the chillier months. And if the drink is made with lower calorie ingredients, you can have something deeply satisfying without a huge calorie expenditure.
Don’t abuse your sense of taste every time you need a pick-me-up, but it is a good choice occasionally.
Change Your Mood Through Touch
Touch can be used in a few different ways to impact your mood. You could wrap yourself in a soft, fuzzy blanket. Or you could get a big hug from one of your children, your husband, or a friend.
If you have daughters, you could spend some time brushing and playing with each other’s hair. Having your hair brushed by someone who is gentle feels so good. And it will give you a chance to love on your daughter too.
Change You Mood Through By Smelling Something Wonderful
There is a reason why women are such big fans of scented candles! The sense of smell is so powerful when it comes to moods and feelings. You can use candles, scented soap or lotion, perfume, or essential oils and other natural ingredients.
You can use candles, scented soap or lotion, perfume, or essential oils and other natural ingredients.
- Lemon and other citrus smells will lift your spirits and make you think of clean.
- Lavender will help calm and soothe you.
- Cinnamon and other “baked goods” smells will comfort.
- Rose and other florals will inspire romance.
There is a special scent for every mood, and keeping a few different options on hand will keep you prepared for any mood.
I have recently fallen in love with the Mrs. Meyers Honeysuckle hand soap and lotion. The scent is so clean and bright. It gives me an instant boost every time that I wash my hands.
I really wish that they had the Honeysuckle scent in a candle or room spray, I love it that much.
Which of your five senses have the biggest impact on your own moods?
It’s a good idea to go ahead and write out a few ideas on how you can upgrade your next bad mood.
Having an action plan already figured out translates into you actually taking action and breaking free of that bad mood.
Everyone will fall into a slump occasionally. And you know what? Sometimes life circumstances will mean that you are in an entire season of less than ideal moods.
The important part is that you are able to quickly recognize and change your bad moods instead of just hanging out there and getting really comfortable.
You can do this!
